In 1895, Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course came into creation as America's first public golf course. Now, over one hundred years later, we remain the nation's oldest public golf course. Although "Vanny", as its loyal golfers refer it to, is only a little over 6,000 yards, it certainly challenges golfers of all skill levels. Challenging par-3’s, 600-yard par-5’s, and some drivable par-4’s making Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course and enjoyable experience for golfers of all skill levels.
In the 90's Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course was allocated city funding to improve the course. Now, under new management, Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course has been the fortunate recipient of over $2,000,000 in capital improvements that have allowed "Vanny" to receive 7 new greens, several new tee-boxes, improved bunkers, and drastically improved drainage under the diligent redesign of golf course architect Steven Kay.
Van Cortlandt has become a beacon of the importance of public golf in our nation. Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course remains the nation's most easily accessible golf course by mass transit, only a 5-minute walk from the last stop on the 1 train. Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course is the golf destination for New York City residents and tourists.
